Mr. John Eden is a retired Canadian Forces Veteran
of the Royal Canadian Navy. He has been a member of the Canadian Naval Air
Group since it was founded in 1970 and he is currently serving his sixth term
as Chairman. In addition, he has served five terms as National
Secretary, and he is a Charter Member of three Chapters ¿ Halifax, Toronto, and Trenton. In 1990, he became a Life Member for outstanding
contributions at the chapter and national levels. Mr. Eden is also a
recipient of the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal. He was the driving force
behind acquiring and restoring two military aircraft for the Shearwater Aviation Museum ¿ a Harvard and a Fairey Swordfish. The team,
who restored the planes to pristine condition, was awarded the
"Medallion of Excellence" by the Minister of Transport and also
received the Maritime Air Group Commander's Commendation in 1990. More
recently, Mr. Eden has collected and catalogued the names and military
details of over 3,700 Canadians who served in Commonwealth Naval Aviation
from 1915 to the present day. This information is now archived at the Shearwater Aviation Museum and is available to historians, researchers and
family members. The Canadian Naval Air Group continues to thrive today as a
result of Mr. Eden's outstanding dedication and contribution to the
preservation of Canada's military air history.
