ATLANTIC  ZONE  REPORT

Since our last update - CNAG Atlantic chapter met 3rd April with 42 members present.   1 May - 43 members and 5 June - 56 members present.

Before each meeting, Minnie reads the following Tribute:

ATo the memory of those stout hearts, our shipmates and mess mates who have not returned, and will not, be returning from the dark waters!  Somewhere in those unlit depths they lie, a torn steel hull their sepulchre, an ocean floor their abbey.  One remembers them, not along for the gallantry of their sacrifices, but too because somehow ones own life is richer for having had their friendship!  On oceans deep where whitecaps flow, there are no crosses row on row, but those who sleep beneath the sea, can sleep in peace - their country is free!  At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we shall remember them.  (Response) We shall remember them.@

Following this, the names of any members we have lost are read and a moment of silence observed.  This is a nice way to bond and remember together as a group.  Maybe it could become a tradition for all Chapters across Canada to share together.

The ladies continue to meet for a luncheon on the second Wednesday of each month.

On 1 May Battle of the Atlantic Sunday, a wreath was laid by Buck and Minnie Rogers on behalf of CNAG Atlantic Chapter at Point Pleasant Park Memorial.  During the ceremony HMCS Sackville was in place off Point Pleasant Park from which several former Naval personnel’s ashes were committed to the deep from the deck while a Sea King, in Naval Colours, hovered close by and dropped a wreath as an Aurora aircraft did a fly past.

At the 5th June meeting, CNAG Atlantic had 120 paid up members.  At the conclusion of the Regular meeting about 65 members enjoyed a Wine and Cheese Get Together in the Shearwater Museum.  The next planned function will be a BBQ 28 August at the WO’s and Sgt’s Mess.

Plans are underway to hold a one day Memorial Mini Reunion on 2 October at the Shearwater Museum.  It will be a short Memorial Time, Up Spirits, Brunch and Socializing.   Any CNAGers on vacation or visiting in the area are welcome.  Please contact Kay at the Museum Foundation toll free 1-888-497-7779 or buck Rogers
